El Pastor Restaurant
Three generations of excellent food and quality service
It was 1966 when El Pastor Restaurant started. At first, El Pastor was only a small wooden house. Its tables were loaned from Coca Cola and its menu was limited to only selling grilled cabrito. Even though it was a very small restaurant, the family recipes of its own, Mr. Euleterio Martinez, got recognition on both sides of the borders regarding the great food this small restaurant served.
After some years of sacrifices and efforts, El Pastor was relocated in 1973 to a bigger and better building and it was when Mr. Martinez had the vision to build a cabrito restaurant with air conditioning which in those years wasn’t very common. This concept got the people’s attention, which made very important people visit the restaurant such as Mexico’s presidents, governors, senators, movie stars, artists, comics, sports athletes, important businessmen and even personalities of the Vatican.
El Pastor still continues with its grand tradition of baby goat, grilled meats, charro beans, handmade flour and corn tortillas and its delicious hot sauce made with piquin pepper. Recently, El Pastor has modified its menu including our known “breakfast buffet” and as a suggestion from our chef we offer some fabulous dishes such as flamed tequila shrimp.
Jesus Martinez is training on his own to continue with his old family tradition which started in the 1950s with his grandfather’s restaurant jardin. He has since opened El Pastor Grill in McAllen so that all his customers from the U.S. can enjoy a bit of Mexico with the same recipes, service, and food quality.
